Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ulva is Ulva lactuca Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bryopsis plumosa (Hudson) C.Agardh.

Type Information
Type locality: prope Exmouth in Devonia [Exmouth, Devon, England]; (Hudson 1778: 571) Notes: According to Womersley (1984: 282) the type is lost.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), feathery (Stearn 1973).
