Nomenclatural note
According to Ellegaard et al. (2003:151), Gonyaulax digitalis = Bitectatodinium tepikiense. Head & al. (2024): "Gonyaulax sp. indet. (not Gonyaulax digitale (Pouchet 1883) Kofoid 1911(m)." - (20 November 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Taxonomic note
Observations by Lewis et al.(2001), show that a motile cell, which can be identified as Gonyaulax digitale, produces the cyst Bitectatodinium tepikiense. They prefer to wait until the status of Gonyaulax is sorted out before proposing generic transfers. - (22 March 2012) - G.M. Guiry
