Taxonomic note
Irvine & Pueschel (1994: 241) include this as a doubtful synonym of H. rubra. They note that the type specimen is missing from Nardo's collection (in Herb. Zanardini, Venice) and the kind of tetrasporangial cleavage is not specified in the original description.
