The type species (lectotype) of the genus Achnanthes is Achnanthes adnata Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Achnanthes inflata (Kützing) Grunow.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), swollen, especially on one side (Stearn 1973).
