Taxonomic notes
According to Silva et al., (1996) the following names have been applied to this species: Dictyota cirrhosa - Hohenacker 1862 (1852-1862): no. 512 (in part). Dictyota fasciola - Delf & Michel (1921: 101) - Stephenson, Stephenson & du Toit (1937: 372).

Tronholm et al (2010: 1309) note that this variety could not be distinguished from D. dichotoma using genetic markers applied in their study or with highly variable mitochondrial spacer sequences designed for phylogeographic purposes (F.
