The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rubrointrusa membranacea (Magnus) S.L.Clayden & G.W.Saunders.

Lectotype locality: Off Korsör, Denmark; (Dixon & Irvine 1977: 101) Lectotype: original illustration (Magnus, 1875, pl. 2, fig. 8), in the absence of material: (Dixon & Irvine 1977: 101) Notes: Denmark: Korsor near Haddockbank, North Sea (INA).

Adjective (Latin), membranous (Stearn 1973).
