Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Corallina is Corallina officinalis Linnaeus.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Jania rubens (Linnaeus) J.V.Lamouroux

Type information
Type locality: ‘Insulae Stoechades’ [Îles d’ Hyères, France, Mediterranean], (Linnaeus 1758: 806). Lectotype: collector unknown; UPS herb. Burser; vol. XX: 72 (Irvine & Chamberlain 1994: 56). Notes: "In the protologue, Linnaeus (1758, p. 806) indicated ‘Habitat in Oceano Europæo’. Whether this includes the Mediterranean is uncertain because, for other species, Linnaeus (1758, pp. 131, 283, 815, 819, for example) cited ‘Habitat in M. Mediterraneo’. The type locality was erroneously listed as the ‘Atlantic coast of Norway’ by Millar and Kraft (1993, p. 14)." (Harvey, Woelkerling & Reviers 2020: 269).

Origin of species name
Participle (Latin), reddish (Stearn 1973).

Nomenclatural notes
"C. dichotoma capillaris, articulis cylindricis brevissimis: dichotomiae subclavatis. Ellis 59 n. 5. t. 24 f. E"
