The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnionella ternifolia (J.D.Hooker & Harvey) Lyle
Type information
Lectotype locality: St Martin’s Cove, Cape Horn, Chile (Athanasiadis 1996: 128). Lectotype: J.D.Hooker; in deep water. BM-K (Athanasiadis 1996: 128).
