Syntype localities: "In the Sea parasitical on Fuci, [Great] Yarmouth [Norfolk] and Dover [Kent]" [England]; (Dillwyn 1802: pl. 18) Lectotype: BM-K; (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 139) Notes: England, unlocalized (Maggs & hommersand, 1993: 139).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), creeping, prostrate and rooting (Stearn 1973).
