This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Chondria.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chondria capillaris (Hudson) M.J.Wynne

Syntype localities: "On the Southern coasts, near Christ Church Hants. At Weymouth. Near Margate. Summer." (Withering 1796: 117). Lectotype: BM (Gordon-Mills 1987: 238). Notes: Gordon-Mills (1987:238) effective lectotypified this name with a specimen in BM annotated "The Lookout" Weymouth, Dorset, England, collected by Samuel Goodenough. Gordon-Mills used the term "Holotype" on p. 238 but also on the same page says "accepted as the type...".

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), very fine (Lewis & Short 1890).
