Nomenclatural notes
Freshwater, in standing waters. - (15 March 2018) - M.D. Guiry
"Not a diagnosis" (INA). [I think I can relate to the same genus a little Conferve, which I have found several times in the dormant waters, and which I will call Ulothrix mucosa, because of the mucous envelope which distinguishes it. Here the zoospores are solitary in each article: as they escape, the filament dissolves and disappears. When germination begins, a small mucilaginous swelling is formed at the base of the young plants, which makes them strongly adherent to the point where they are implanted. The filaments of this and all other Ulothrix species have a very different aspect, according to whether they are examined before or after the formation of the zoospores, and it is necessary to be able to follow the different states, to make sure that we are not dealing with several species.] This may indicate a certain provisional nature to the name. - (26 August 2011) - G.M.
