Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ulva is Ulva lactuca Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colpomenia sinuosa (Mertens ex Roth) Derbès & Solier.

Type locality: "Inter Algas e mari Atlantico prope Gades" [near Cádiz, Spain]; (Roth 1806: 327) Type: Mertens; BM; (Yoshida 1998: 306) Notes: Type locality: “Gades”, Spain. Adjective (Latin), very sinuate (Stearn 1973).
