Townsend et al. (1995: 93) consider it highly likely that both Archaeolithothamnion australasicum and Lithophyllum okamurai f. contigua are based on the same collection. Woelkering et al. (2005: 179) further comment: "Woelkerling & Campbell (1992: 98) were unable to locate specimens labelled Lithophyllum okamurai f. contigua in TRH, but Townsend et al.1995: 93 provided evidence that this name was crossed out on the box housing the lectotype of Archaeolithothamnion australasicum (C19-3370), and they concluded that it was highly likely that Foslie (1907a: 12) had redescribed Lithophyllum okamurai f. contigua as Archaeolithothamnion australasicum without so indicating and that both taxa are likely to be based on the same type (C19-3370). Consequently, a separate entry has not been prepared here for Lithophyllum okamurai f. contigua. Woelkerling (1997: 248) provides further comments]." - (24 Mar 2009) - Wendy Guiry
