The type species (holotype) of the genus Ulva is Ulva lactuca Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Codium decorticatum (Woodward) M.Howe.
Type locality: "Hab. in mari Mediterraneo" [Mediterranean Sea]; (Woodward 1797: 56) Holotype: BM; 000516150 (Silva 1960: 516) Notes: Holotype is labelled "Mediterranean, Mr Wigg".
Origin of Species Name
(Latin), deprived of bark, lacking a covering (Dawes & Mathieson 2008)
