The type species (holotype) of the genus Fosliella is Fosliella farinosa (J.V.Lamouroux) M.Howe.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hydrolithon farinosum var. chalicodictyum (W.R.Taylor) Serio.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), mealy, covered with farina (flour-like, powdery covering) (Stearn 1973).
