The type species (holotype) of the genus Cylindrocarpus is Cylindrocarpus microscopicus P.Crouan & H.Crouan.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Petrospongium kuckuckii (Taskin, M.J.Wynne & M.Öztürk) Cormaci & G.Furnari.

General Environment
This is a marine species.
Description
Thalli globose or pyriform, 4–6 mm in height, with discrete profile, of spongy
texture, with an epilithic habit; light brown in color; pseudodichotomous branching
throughout; plurilocular sporangia biseriate, cylindrical, 50–120 µm long and
10–12 µm broad, terminal and lateral on erect filaments, with 1–4 celled stalks.
