The type species (holotype) of the genus Kumanoa is Kumanoa virgatodecaisneana (Sirodot) Entwisle, M.L.Vis, W.B.Chiasson, Necchi & A.R.Sherwood.

Holotype locality: Brazil, Amazonas State, Manaus, Route AM-10, km 25, 'Adolfo Ducke' Forest Reserve, Acará Stream (02º57'06"S, 59º57'01"W) (Necchi et al. 2010: 99). Holotype: D. Pascoaloto; 1 December 1999; SP 400148 (Necchi et al. 2010: 99). Notes: Isotype: SJRP 28273.
