Taxonomic notes
Nitella acuminata f. subspicata (T.F. Allen) R.D. Wood from 1962 includes four of Allen's species, Nitella subspicata (monoecious) and the dioecious species N. missouriensis, N. occidentalis and N. blankinshipii. The dioeciouis species have been renamed to Nitella blakinshipii and Nitella blankinshipii var. missouriensis and var. occidentalas. This taxon (Wood's) has no modern accepted name. The name, N. acuminata var. subspicata given here is provisional. - (28 Mar 2010) -
