Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhodophyllis membranacea (Harvey) Hooker f. & Harvey.

Type locality: Georgetown, Tasmania; (Silva & al. 1996: 286) Lectotype: Gunn 1276; BM, Herb. Hooker; (Womersley 1994: 415) Notes: Tetrasporangial specimens (Gunn 1276); isolectotype in TCD (Womersley 1994: 416, 415).

Adjective (Latin), membranous (Stearn 1973).
