Nomenclatural notes
"arbuscula" [a small tree] is a noun in apposition and is not declinable; so it is not correctable to "Carbusculum". Lawson & John (1987) cite this species as Gelidium arbuscula (Montagne) Børgesen. According to Lawson & John (1987) Bory is often cited as the authority for this species although there is no evidence that he ever provided a description of it. They also note that Børgesen (1927), who examined Bory's material, believed it to be the same plant described by Montagne (1839-1841) as Gelidium corneum var. nereideum and that, therefore, Børgesen appears to be the authority for making the combination Gelidium arbuscula based on this variety of G. corneum.

Taxonomic notes
According to Lawson & John (1987), Gelidium corneum var. nereideum Montagne is the basionym of Gelidium arbuscula (Montagne) Børgesen.

Distributional notes
Lawson & John (1987) note that “this plant...is well known from... Sénégal.”

This is a marine species.
