Type locality: False Bay, South Africa (Sym et al. 2011: 233). Holotype (isolate BO9): December 1996; marine, planktonic in inshore waters. Moss Herbarium, Univ. of the Witwatersrand, Johannesberg J100093 (permanent slide of material embedded in Spurr's resin) (Sym et al. 2011: 232, 231).
