The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Durvillaea incurvata (Suhr) Macaya
Type information
Type locality: Valparaiso, central Chile (Fraser et al. 2019: 26). Lectotype: Suhr herb. at Kiel KIEL 0005101 (Fraser et al. 2019: 26, fig. 2D).
