Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Cladophorella is Cladophorella calcicola F.E.Fritsch.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Wittrockiella fritschii (A.K.Islam) Boedeker.

According to Skaloud et al. (2018: 193) "Without molecular data and without a type specimen for W. fritschii, the identity of the type specimens will remain unknown, and species level identification of field material by morphology alone is not possible in Wittrockiella, therefore it has been recommended that this name should not be used anymore (see Boedeker et al. 2017)." - (17 March 2018) - M.D. Guiry
