Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnion hanovioides (Sonder) De Toni.
Type Information
Type locality: Gulf St. Vincent, South Australia; (Athanasiadis 1996: 153) Notes: Womersley (1998: 110) notes that the holotype is missing in MEL but Sonder's drawings (labelled "No. 43, P. Adelaide") and his description (as in 1853, p. 674) are present. Wollaston (1968: 295) selected as lectotype Sonder's original drawings labelled "No. 43, P. Adelaide" in MEL (see Athanasiadis 1996: 153).
