Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Spyridia is Spyridia filamentosa (Wulfen) Harvey.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Macrothamnion pellucidum (Harvey) Wollaston.

Type locality: "George Town V. D. L., R. Gunn, Esq., 1305: also in the Collection of 1840"; (Harvey 1844: 449-450) Lectotype (designated by Womersley 1998: 124): R. Gunn 1305; TCD; herb. Harvey (Womersley 1998: 124) Notes: "Type. TCD, Herb. Harvey (Gunn No. I305)" (Wollaston 1968:329).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), pellucid, translucent but not hyaline (Stearn 1973).
