This is a marine species.
Type locality: "Falsa-Bai, auf Sertularien" [False Bay, Cape Town, South Africa on Sertularia] (Suhr 1840: 280). Notes: Suhr (l.c.) indicated that this species was based on material from False Bay. Falkenberg, however, considered as the original material six packets of speciments from Algoa Bay, labeled Polysiphonia dubia in Suhr's hand and housed at Berlin (B).
