Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Geissleria is Geissleria moseri Metzeltin, Witkowski & Lange-Bertalot.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Navigeia hinziae (Novais & Ector) L.N.Bukhtiyarova.

Type locality: Seewiesen b, Kaditz in Dresden, Saxony, Germany [lake meadows near Kaditz (INA)]; (Novais et al. 2013: 135) Holotype: G. Schonfeld; 01/01/1922; BR; BR-4304 (microscopic slide) (Novais et al. 2013: 135) Notes: Fig. 22 represents the iconotype. Isotype: slide N7/50 and unmounted material number E6841 (Hustedt Collection, Bremerhaven, Germany), slide corresponding to the type material of Navicula schoenfeldii.
