Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bostrychia moritziana (Sonder ex Kützing) J.Agardh
Type information
Syntype localities: Ad Antillas: Moritz; Cayenne: Leprieur. Spec. dederunt cll. Sonder ey Lenormand (No. 255)." [Antilles, West Indies; Cayenne, French Guiana] (Kützing 1849: 838). Notes: According to Womersley (2003: 366), the type material (Polysiphonia? moritziana Sonder ex Kützing 1849: 838) is from Venezuela, St Lucia and French Guiana: lectotype from Cumana, Venezuela (Moritz 142), in MEL 672271. However, Venezuela is not mentioned in the protologue, and the type is more likely to be the Leprieur specimen from the Antilles in L. Womersley's selection of a Venezeulan lectiotype specimen in MEL is inexplicable.
