The type species (holotype) of the genus Discostella is Discostella stelligera (Cleve & Grunow) Houk & Klee.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Discostella lacus-karluki (Manguin ex Kociolek & Reviers) Potapova, Aycock & Bogan.
