This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halimeda incrassata (J.Ellis) J.V.Lamouroux.
Type locality: West Indies; (Silva & al. 1996: 868) Lectotype: the illustrations of Ellis (1768), which were reproduced in Hillis-Colinvaux (1980: 20): (Verbruggen & al. 2006: 354)
