The type species (holotype) of the genus Coelosphaerium is Coelosphaerium kuetzingianum Nägeli.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Snowella rosea (J.W.Snow) Elenkin.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), rose-coloured (Stearn 1973).
