Nomenclatural note
Vis & Necchi (2021: 210) included Kumanoa tortuosa (Kumano) ET Johnston, PE Lim, and ML Vis (Phycologia 53:336, 2014) in the synonymy of Kumanoa montagnei Entwisle, ML Vis, WB Chiasson, Necchi, and AR Sherwood (J Phycol 45:710, 2009); however, Batrachospermum tortuosum S. Kumano (Bot. Mag. Tokyo 91: 101, fig. 4. 1978) is an earlier valid name with priority and thus the correct name for Kumanoa montagnei is Kumanoa tortuosa (Kumano) E.T.Johnston, P.-E.Lim & M.L.Vis assuming that the synonymy is correct. - (14 April 2022) - M.D. Guiry
