Lectotype locality: Monterey, California (Cho, Boo & Hansen 2002: 565). Lectotype: FH (Cho, Boo & Hansen 2002: 565). Notes: Cho et al. (2002: 565) designate Phykotheka Universalis 302 (FH) as lectotype.

Adjective (Latin), red (Stearn 1973).
