This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halimeda opuntia (Linnaeus) J.V.Lamouroux
Lectotype locality: China Sea (Silva & al. 1996: 871). Notes: Silva et al. recommend consulting Barton (1901: expl. pl. II: fig. 20) for further information concerning the lectotype locality of this species.
