Type locality: "Nova Hollandia" [Australia] (Kützing 1862: 7). Lectotype: Gunn; Herb. Kützing, L 941, 61 ... 119 (Womersley 1998: 350). Notes: The lectotype was from Tasmania.
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), having tufts of long weak hairs (Stearn 1973).
