Areschoug (Bird, Oliveira Filho & McLachlan 1986: 2049). Notes: Syntypes: 29370, in LD (tetrasporangial); BM (tetrasporangial); FH. Type locality ? Brazil: Pernambuco [Recife] (Index Nominum Algarum).

Adjective (Latin), horny, hard and close-textured but not brittle (Stearn 1973).
