Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chantransia is Chantransia nigricans De Candolle.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli

Type information
Type locality: Kvivig, Faeroe Is (Womersley 1994: 48). Type: on "Conferva rupestris". C (Womersley 1994: 48). Notes: Dawson (1953: 32) notes holotype not designated, but represented by Lyngbye's original specimen in the Botanical Museum, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Adjective (Latin), with secund branching (Lewis & Short 1890).
