The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cosmarium is Cosmarium undulatum Corda ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pachyphorium truncatum (Nordstedt) Palamar-Mordvintseva.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), truncate, i.e., ending very abruptly as if cut straight across (Stearn 1973).
