The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhabdonia is Rhabdonia coccinea (Harvey) Harvey.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Amphiplexia racemosa (J.Agardh) Kraft.

Type locality: "ad oras australes Novae Hollandiae" ; (Agardh 1892: 116) Holotype: Brooke; LD; Herb. Agardh 34452 (Kraft & Womersley 1994: 373) Notes: A type locality of Israelite Bay, Western Australia was recorded by Kraft (1977: 122).

Adjective (Latin), with flowers borne in racemes.
