The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ahnfeltiopsis vermicularis (C.Agardh) P.C.Silva & DeCew.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), worm-shaped, almost cylindrical and bent in places, marked with irregular waves or bent lines (Stearn 1973).
