The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhabdonia is Rhabdonia coccinea (Harvey) Harvey.

Type locality: "ad Novam Hollandiam" (probably near Fremantle, Western Australia (Silva & al. 1996: 338). Holotype: Fraser; E (Womersley 1994: 341). Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Min-thein & Womersley (1976: 9)

Adjective A (Latin), strong growing, strong-growing, or stout (Stearn 1973).
