Nomenclatural note
"This species was described by Kützing (1842: 738) from the Gulf of Genoa (Italy) and later illustrated in his Tabulae Phycologicae (Kützing, 1862: 28, pl. 93/a-c). Listed by Hauck (1882: 110) among the synonyms of C. ciliatum [var. ciliatum], it was later considered by Mazoyer (1938: 322) as a synonym of C. ciliatum var. robustum."
