Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhizoclonium is Rhizoclonium juergensii (Mertens) Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudorhizoclonium fractum (Ichihara & Miyaji) Boedeker, Leliaert & A.R.Sherwood.
