The type species (holotype) of the genus Cheilosporum is Cheilosporum sagittatum (J.V.Lamouroux) Areschoug.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Alatocladia modesta (Yendo) H.W.Johansen.

Type locality: Japan, Hakodate; Kaifu (prov. Echigo); (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Topotype: Japan, Hakodate, May 1903, UC 90826 ex-Herb. K. Yendo (Gabrielson et al. 2011).
