The type species (holotype) of the genus Ostreopsis is Ostreopsis siamensis Johs. Schmidt.

Type locality: Batroun, Lebanon (34°15'5.40"N, 35°39'24.78"E) (Accoroni et al. 2016: 1069). Holotype: ANC SEM stub. 3/16-UNIVPM (Accoroni et al. 2016: 1069, fig. 5A). Notes: Isotype: preserved sample in ANC.
