Nomenclatural note
In Note 2 on p. 862, Athanasiadis writes: "The here selected lectotype (illustrated) can be unequivocally referred to Scagelothamnlon. Yet, the habit of the second Illustration in the protologue is not typical of S. pusi/lum, which in Scandinavia forms Isolated thalli on various algae in the sublittoral (including Coralllna; Rosenvlnge 1924: 368). A further difference Is that Scagelothamnlon is not recorded from Norfolk (Hardy & Guiry 2003: 212), while only two records exist further north (Yorkshire). The selection of the lectotype has been made taking into consideration that this is the only element that can fix the name application. Spermothamnion tumeri currently stands as the type of the genus Spermothamnion and this problem should be solved selecting a new conserved type." In relation to the question mark included in the combination, Athanasiadis (e-mail, 26 March 2017) writes: "The questionmark in the combination '? Scagelothamnion turneri (Mertens in Roth) comb.nov.' [is] specifically explained that [it] pertains to the relationship of this species to S. pusillum, not to the identity of S. turneri, [which] was accepted [as a] Scagelothamnion." - (27 February 2017) - M.D. Guiry
