Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phymatolithon lamii (Me.Lemoine) Y.M.Chamberlain.
Type Information
Type locality: France: Finistère: Brest (on porcelain); (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype (Chamberlain, 1991: fig. 4) : dredged from Rade de Brest (on porcelain) (epitype) P.-L. & H.-M Crouan; January 1859 and February 1869; CO (Herb. Crouan); crust (fig. 4) on the largest of a number of porcelain fragments (Chamberlain 1991: 222, figs 4, 5 (photographs)) Notes: Lectotype: CO. As Lithothamnion melobesioides, coll. P.-L. & H.-M. Crouan, Dragué Rade de Brest, Janvier 1859 et Février 1869 (Chamberlain, 1991: 222, figs 4, 5 (photos)).
