Taxonomic note
"Taxon inquirendum" (Cormaci & al. 2023: 160): "This species was described by Kützing (1849: 678) from Hvar (Croatia). Later, it was illustrated by Kützing himself in his Tabulae Phycologicae (Kützing, 1862: 24 and 30, pls 79/d-e and 100/d-f). Hauck (1882: 104), Ardissone (1883: 107) and De Toni (1903: 1450), following J. Agardh (1851: 120-121), listed it among the synonyms of C. tenuissimum (= C. diaphanum). The synonymy be-tween G. nodiferum and C. diaphanum has also been recently reported by Secilla (2012: 271). However, from the examination of the iconography provided by Kützing (op. cit.), it appears evident that such a synonymy is not tenable be-cause Kützing (op. cit.) illustrated G. nodiferum as having straight apices that, conversely, are enrolled in C. diaphanum." - (08 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
