According to Burrows (1991) this species is a synonym of Chaetomorpha melagonium (Weber & Mohr) Kutzing, and Brodie, Maggs & John (2007: 143) follow suit. However, Blairet al argue convincingly for separate species status for C. picquotiana, which includes C. atrovirens.
This is a marine species.
