Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chaetomorpha is Chaetomorpha melagonium (F.Weber & D.Mohr) Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chaetomorpha picquotiana Montagne ex Kützing.

Taxonomic note
According to Burrows (1991) this species is a synonym of Chaetomorpha melagonium (Weber & Mohr) Kutzing, and Brodie, Maggs & John (2007: 143) follow suit. However, Blairet al argue convincingly for separate species status for C. picquotiana, which includes C. atrovirens. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
