Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Champia is Champia lumbricalis (Linnaeus) Desvaux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Champia viridis C.Agardh.

Lectotype locality: Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 348) Notes: Reedman & Womersley (1976: 79) note that a suitable lectotype is probably Harvey's Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 251, in TCD, from Port Phillip, Victoria.
